The part of the trip that was one of the most difficult physically and psycologically was the trip up and down Disappointment Cleaver. This is a outcropping of rotten, crumbling rock that separates the Emmons and Ingraham glaciers. Rock falls are frequent, and the path not exactly clear cut.

Upon reaching the Cleaver at dawn, we were greeted by a beautiful sunrise. The constellations were clear, Orion sat low and to the southeast. The deep blue of the night sky hung in opposition to the burnt orange of dawn until it was overtaken by bright yellow orb, and the stars donned their daytime cloaks of azure.
